The Freedom Liturgy

A fresh and energetic setting of the Mass for piano/keyboard, guitar and instruments.

The Mass setting

  • Penitential Act: Metrical invocations for the priest or cantor with a Kyrie / Christe response. The invocations are flexible and can be altered or spoken.
  • Glory to God: a simple refrain with three verses. The verses may be sung by a competent congregation too. If you have a percussionist, let them loose on this piece!
  • Eucharistic Acclamations: The Holy Holy Holy, Mystery of Faith and Amen all share a common theme, making them easy to learn.
  • Lamb of God: A relaxed setting with a gentle swing. If your pianist can play in a jazz style, let them improvise on the piano part.

The Gospel Acclamations

An Alelluia and Gospel Acclamation for Lent, based on the melodies of the Mass setting for piano/keyboard, guitar and instruments. They are an ideal complement to that Mass setting, or can be used independently of it.

Metrical verses are provided in each setting. Alternatively, a reader may speak the words of the Gospel Acclamation while the verse accompaniment is played underneath.

  • Alleluia: Sample verses are provided for Sundays of Ordinary Time and seasons of the year. The melody is taken from the Holy, Holy, Holy of The Freedom Liturgy. An alternative response (based on texts from 1 Samuel and John’s Gospel) is given, for occasions where it may be appropriate to use this.
  • Gospel Acclamation for Lent: Verses for all Sundays of Lent are provided. The melody is taken from the Penitential Act off the Mass setting.

Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children

The Eucharistic Acclamations from the main Mass setting have been reworked for the Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children in a fresh and energetic setting. All of the acclamations in the prayers have been set to music used in the main Mass setting and the familiar Holy, Holy, Holy, Mystery of Faith and Great Amen are used too.

Settings are provided for each of the three Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children.
