This versatile song can be used for many occasions where water, baptism, renewal and cleansing are a focus of the liturgy.
It can be used as a song of welcome to the newly-baptised at the Easter Vigil or at baptism services. Sing it as a sprinkling song during Easter time or as a song for the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
The verses are taken from initiation scripture, including “I give you a new heart” and “I saw water flowing” from Ezekiel, “dying to sin, rising to life” and “one faith, one baptism” from Paul’s letters and Isaiah’s “drink from the springs of salvation”.
